In the old neighbourhood of Penha de França, one of the most typical neighborhoods of Lisbon, we have an atelier. In this traditional environment we feel at home. We will, after getting acquainted, start off with a very brief introduction of the history and style of the tiles we will be painting. Then we will show you hands-on how the process is done from start to finish and answer any questions. Choosing from a range of antique designs that you would actually be able to find in Portugal, you will then paint these designs on your own. We will be assisting throughout the whole experience. You will paint TWO TILES. After, the tiles will be fired in one of our kilns and you will have made a couple of tiles of your own, using the same techniques the old portuguese masters used! Please keep in mind that the process of firing the tiles is lenghty. The tiles are usually ready for pick up in 24h-48h. If it is not possible for the guests to pick them up we are able to ship them. Shipping depends on the amount of tiles and the destination. For pricing please send us a message.
Pedro & Tetyana
We are a couple of artists - Pedro and Tetyana - living in Lisbon, working with the beautiful art of Portuguese Tiles. We have Design and Painting backgrounds, having studied and met in the Fine Arts University of Lisbon while doing our Master Degrees. Together we bring our knowledge into our art and have been creating both reproductions of antique tiles for several projects as well as our own original work. We love this tradition and want to keep it alive! Join us in learning how this beautiful part of the face of Lisbon was created!
All the materials needed to paint the tiles, including the tiles you will take home with you (maximum of two tiles)
We will work together in the typical neighborhood of Penha de França, in a very calm street. You will be in the middle of our own work, painting tiles for all purposes. We would to make you feel as though you are one of our team of artisans :)
It is possible to get a little paint or powder from the tiles, in your clothes. It is usually easily washable, but do not bring clothes that are precious to you or that can't be replaced.
