We will meet in the parking lot for the TOWN OFFICES of STOCKBRIDGE. a short walk up the trail brings us to our place of practice at the beautiful Stone Rostrum. Designed by Daniel Chester French (Lincoln Memorial) the piece is a memorial to Henry Dwight Sedgwick, president of the Laurel Hill Association from 1881 to 1904. We continue our journey, down to the bridge, cross the railroad tracks and on the ice glen trail. As we journey we may make stops to explore the native flora (plants and trees) and fauna (animals and critters) . I can give you plenty of information about the history of the area and the therapeutic uses of plants as we hike. Our hike takes us through the geological wonder of ice glen, a glacial boulder field which is often icy or snowy from November well into June! It is an out-and-back hike. Once back to the Rostrum, we will finish with a mediation of gratitude and if time allows, a snack! I will send a snack away with you if time does not allow.

The trails in and around Stockbridge are unique spaces of both natural and anthropological history. Guests will enjoy time in Ice Glen, important because of it's glacial history and anthropological history. Ice Glen is a boulder field which separated from the adjoining mountainsides and fell to the bottom of the v-shaped valley after the end of the last glacial period over 11,000 years ago. We will also see Massachusetts' oldest pine tree!
