Come to my kitchen, and learn how to roll authentic Filipino lumpia; a traditional Filipino dish. Yummy! Lumpia is best described as a Filipino version of the egg-roll, only better. You will help with preparation, and at the end of the lesson you will enjoy a traditional Filipino meal (chicken adobo, pancit, rice and lumpia). You will also take some frozen lumpia home, to fry later.
My name is Gennell, and I am the owner of “My Filipino Grandma” a Seattle-based catering company specializing in Filipino cuisine. Ever since I was a little girl, I would roll lumpia with my Filipino grandma. As an adult, I became a caterer and continued to make her special recipe with a little twist & extra love. I would love to teach you about the Filipino American culture, mainly the food.
We will have our cooking lesson, and dinner at my rental property in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Gennell is an absolutely fantastic host and is a Filipino mom through and through. The whole night was authentically Filipino in so many ways. Homemade Filipino food is the best kind of Filipino food—so if you've never had authentic Filipino food, this is a GREAT introduction. All of the dishes tasted SO good and reminded me of home. You'll have the major staples—white rice, pancit, chicken adobo, and of course, lumpia! And just like a legit Filipino feast, Gennell cooked us sooo much food and we were completely stuffed, had leftovers to take home, and had lumpia to continue cooking for later as well. And, obviously, learn how to roll lumpias. Overall, would definitely recommend this experience. Warm yourself up to a nice, comforting Filipino meal in rainy Seattle while you're visiting!
