My name is Felicitas, I am Swiss Gemmologist with a passion for Japanese Akoya Pearls. I have studied gemmology (precious stone science) at the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. In 2008 I have started my pearl and jewelry design business and I am happy to share my passion and knowledge with you. My tour brings you to the jewelry and pearl shopping area of Tokyo, a hidden and less tourist…
We will meet outside of the metro station "Suehirocho" and walk together to the Area Okachimachi. I will give you a brief overview of Japanese Akoya Pearls, their history and quality / price details. Depending on your interests we will focus on pearls, gemstones, diamonds, jewelry making material or ready-to-wear jewelry. As there are many shops, it is not easy to find the good ones by yourself…
Please wear good shoes as we are walking around the area.
You will receive a factsheet about Japanese Akoya Pearls
As some of the shops only accept cash, I suggest that you bring some cash if you are planning to buy some pearls or other. If you would need more cash, we will always have the possibility to do a withdrawal at the ATM.
Okachimachi is one of the jewelry areas where lots of wholesale shops are located. Also pearl dealers are located in office buildings but can only be visited on appointment. On our tour we will meet one of them. The area is less touristic and it is quite important to speak some Japanese to be able to communicate in the shops.
