This is a small-group experience of up to 6 people only. I am a very experienced Urban Cycling Instructor used to training children, adults and lorry drivers on how to use the London cycle and road network. I use only good quality bikes. Our meeting point is St George's Leisure Centre, 1 minute from Shadwell Overground and DLR, where I will provide you with a bike and helmet for the session. From there, we will explore Shadwell Basin and the nearby historic riverside dock areas, including some little known steps down to the Thames. We will then head north to the ever-evolving area of Brick Lane where graffiti by famous artists and expensive clothing boutiques stand side by side with London’s oldest council housing estate. I will then take you through gentrified Shoreditch and Hoxton to the calm waters of Regent’s Canal and onwards to Hackney’s bustling Broadway Market. We will also stop at one of my favourite pubs or cafes, depending on the groups preference.
I am Mike, a Londoner for 15 years and an accredited cycling instructor. I am also the co-founder of a cycling organisation called The Open Wheel - we organise various sportivess and rides, including the West Riding Classic in Yorkshire. I love exploring London by bike and discovering new and interesting places.
Every participant will get a fully serviced bike and a helmet - and a waterproof anorak in case of bad weather.
Over the course of up to 4 hours, using quiet routes, back streets and cycle paths, we will explore London’s eastern boroughs. This is a fun introduction to an incredibly varied urban area - you will see gritty cityscapes, beautiful parks and open areas, famous sports arenas and other interesting cultural spaces. We will also stop off at my favourite local food places for some snacks along the way, and if the group would like, a well earned pint.
