We'll meet just outside the Market, near the Information Booth. Here you'll be greeted by Jess, your guide and introduced to the Barossa Farmers Market. You'll learn about the philosophy of the Market, and the reasons why it continues to grow and thrive today; plus you'll hear the story of how a conversation on the side of the road led to a group of dedicated and passionate locals forming the Barossa Farmers Market over 15 years ago. We'll then venture into the Market, where you'll be guided to a curated collection of Market stallholders who reflect the vibrancy, diversity and quality of the produce at the Barossa Farmers Market. Along the way we'll delve into the Barossa' unique and enduring food culture and some of the cultural reasons why it remains so strong to this day. Your Tour includes insider's tips on everything from how to chose the best cherry tomatoes, what to look for in a stick of mettwurst, how to store cheese the Barossa way and how to take a slice of the Barossa good life home with you. We even provide a beautiful calico shopping bag for all your treats and our suggestions for the loveliest picnic spots around the Barossa to enjoy your goodies.
I'm a former manager of the Barossa Farmers Market, so I know the Market inside out, and most importantly, I'm friends with many of the stallholders here. This means I'm your local guide to everything that is special about the Barossa Farmers Market - the fantastic stories behind the producers, the great characters that make the Market such a drawcard for visitors and of course, lots of foodie tips, recipes and insider's insights into what makes the Barossa Farmers Market the beating heart of the Barossa's world renown food culture. Our Tour takes you right to heart of what makes the Barossa so special - you'll hear the lovely story about how the loss of something precious actually led to the establishment of the Market, and of course we will walk and talk and taste our way through a cornucopia of delicious, local, handmade food.
A printed calico shopping bag to hold your goodies, and a list of our favouite picnic spots to enjoy them.
The Barossa Farmers Market is the beating heart of the Barossa's living food culture. A market breakfast and shopping (with a side of catching up on the week's gossip) is an institution beloved by the locals and enthusiastically shared with visitors.
The Barossa Farmers Market is undercover so our Tours proceed rain, hail or shine. It does get cold in winter so rug up! Breakfast & coffee is available at the Market either before or after your Tour.
