We will begin with an introduction to kombucha; what it is, and the potential health benefits. This will be accompanied by a tasting paddle of several kombuchas to see which flavours you like the most. Next we will go through a step by step kombucha making class where you will get to see the process of making kombucha from beginning to end. You will follow along by making your own batch of kombucha as we go. We’ll then look at different ways to flavour kombucha and some things to look out for when buying kombucha off the shelf. At the end of the session, you can choose to take your new batch of kombucha and SCOBY which will take 3-4 weeks to turn into drinkable kombucha, or you may take a bottle of ready to drink kombucha to enjoy more immediately.
I first started drinking kombucha because I liked the taste of it, and then I became aware of the health benefits, and the importance of a healthy microbiome. As kombucha has become more popular, commercial brands have brought with them higher sugar, additives, pasturisation and other treatments that reduce the beneficial effects, so that’s why I started to make my own kombucha at home (as well as being a much cheaper option). In this class I will share what I have learned with you and teach you how to make kombucha yourself.
