This course will take you to the backcountry of Mt. Hood, where you will learn how to efficiently travel up-hill and earn your turns in breathtaking scenery. Spend the day learning equipment orientation and use, avalanche awareness, mountain weather, basic navigational skills, emergency preparedness, and backcountry skinning and riding techniques. Your guides will teach you different techniques and tips to make your travel more efficient and your experience more enjoyable. This course will be very instructional based, focusing on learning the skills of AT ski or splitboarding rather than a full mountain tour. Interested in a two day course to get in more turns? Please see our intermediate experience, where you will venture further out into the backcountry and put your newfound skills to the test as you seek untracked lines.
Other things to note
It is highly recommended to meet your guide the evening before your trip to size boots and skis/board. Meeting location for rentals will be at the Mountain Shop, 1510 NE 37th Ave, Portland, OR 97232.
