You can't visit Portland without taking a hike in one of America's premier city parks, Forest Park! This is a private hike so I will want to know about what sights you’d like to experience before we hit the trail. Do you prefer a hilly workout or would you rather stroll on a flat trail? Do you want to get your boots muddy or keep your sneakers clean? Our hike will take approximately 2 hours at a moderate pace with plenty of opportunities to pause for photos and to enjoy the views. No matter which trail we take we will cross quaint wooden bridges, look for native plants, and keep a watchful eye open for great blue herons, hummingbirds, and woodpeckers. I'll tell you a little about the history of the park, Native Americans who lived here, and how everything changed when Lewis & Clark showed up 200 years ago. We will work up an appetite so will stop for a snack along the way. We will catch up on current happenings in Portland - which restaurants are open, other great places to visit, and fun things to do. I look forward to learning about you and what brings you to Oregon!
Hi, I'm Sarah! Welcome to the largest urban forest in North America and one of Portland’s most famous landmarks. For six years I was the public information officer for Portland Parks & Recreation, which manages Forest Park, and got to know its history, trail system, and stories very well. In the past 3 years I’ve hiked 600 miles along her many trails and in all weather conditions! Let me show you ancient trees, magnificent ferns, and bubbling creeks of these ancient woods. Along the way I will share about the Native Americans who lived here before, the Lewis & Clark campsite nearby, and the pioneers who settled in this magnificent place. This hike is suitable for all interested in exploring a true Pacific Northwest Rainforest. All walking / hiking abilities welcome. * Due to covid-19: 1-guest at a time for maximum safety.
Granola bars and/or fruit
Rain ponchos and/or umbrellas
Forest Park is one of the largest urban parks in the world and the only city wilderness park in the United States. The park is home to hundreds of native plants and animals and offers more than 80 miles of trails. No other city park in North America can offer such a natural experience. We will be hiking for approximately 5-miles along several trails, visiting the most scenic spots available. Don’t forget your camera!
