We're excited to take you to an absolute must-see in the Marin Headlands. It's an uncrowded area next to the famous Muir Woods that blends the best elements of a redwood & coastal nature experience. We'll lead you on a favorite 6-mile loop hike we created that combines a super deep redwood experience with fern-lined trails, scenic waterfalls, a short, fun wooden ladder to climb, and mountain top views of the Pacific ocean. December and January are the best times for waterfalls! We will stop for snacks half way, at a spectacular view of the ocean hundreds of feet below. After our well-earned break, we will head down a trail with gentle traverses that faces the ocean the whole way. We know that the best way to hike is in this direction, facing waterfalls going up and facing the ocean heading down. Simply beautiful. The Happy Hour After the hike, the fun continues. We will take you to a hard-to-find beach bar & cafe with an outdoor deck, a beautiful beach/ocean view, and delicious food, beer, and wine. We will arrive an hour before sunset. Tourists don't find this gem where you can actually eat & drink with your toes in the sand, looking at and listening to the ocean, at sunset!
Hi! I started the SF Happy Hour Hiking group (meetup.com/SFHappyHourHiking) with my co-host Brian to expose nature lovers to our favorite pastime: a scenic group hike followed by celebratory drinks in a beautiful spot. The idea was a hit, with 70 members on Day 1 and 1,000 in 8 months. We've led 40 Bay Area hikes so far following a simple but enjoyable model: We bring small groups to beautiful, uncrowded trails, then introduce you to a hidden gem of bar near the trailhead. We've led hiking trips for a combined 20+ years across the country and know how to organize a very fun day on the trail!
We'll bring tasty trail snacks for you (fruit, nuts, cheese, chocolate, etc.). Please bring your lunch or buy @ beach cafe.
The 2 hosts leading the hike have 3 spots each to transport you to start of the hike from SF (from Inner Sunset or Marina)
We will start at Stinson Beach and hike upwards into the redwoods, then to an open hilltop, before heading back down to Stinson Beach and a hidden beach bar and cafe
This is a 6-mile, 3-hr hike. Bring appropriate footwear & layers to adjust for sudden temperature changes. Bring a meal or $ to buy at the cafe. No dogs sadly on State Park trails :(
