Spending the day cave-exploring is one of the lesser known ways to enjoy Budapest. We designed this tour for those who want something more active and less touristic than museums and ruin pubs. This walk is a relaxed way to visit two caves, in addition we will enter into sections which are closed from other tourists. Join us if you are a natural history lover, if you travel with your adventure-seeker kids, or if you’re just looking for a getaway from the city traffic. - We will visit two caves. The tour takes 2,5-3 hours. We will meet up at Szemlő-hegyi Cave. We will spend 50 minutes there and then take a 10 minute walk to Pál-völgyi Cave, where we will do an hour-long tour. Both caves have safe pathways and lighting. - The first cave is called the ”underground flower garden” of Budapest because of its floriform mineral concretions, peastones, cauliflowers and gypsum crystals. - Our second site is a labyrinth of narrow passages and hollow spaces. We will enter the petrified world of fabular stalactites and stalagmites and amazing rock-formations. You will need to be ready to climb some stairs: we will climb more than 400 stairs and a 7 meter long ladder.

Our two passions are: nature and entertaining. We mixed these two to show our guests that geology definitely is not boring. Our civil job is a caving guide as well, but we’ve always regretted that at our basic tours there’s no time and place to enter into details and have closer conversations with visitors. This tour is different: we provide our guests access to some parts of the caves where most of tourists can’t enter, and regale them with interesting cave facts, stories and caving tips and tricks.
We will visit two caves. They are both located in the residential Buda side of the town, 35-40 minutes from the city center. Their distance from each other is 800 meters and our visit will cover 500 meters in each caves. Both caves have a special thermal origin caused by an up welling of warm mineral rich water from a deep level, unlikely to the word’s most caves which are mostly formed by solutional activity via down flow of water.
