La Barceloneta is famous for its beach side, but this experience will take you off the beaten track and to the backstage of Barcelona fishermen's culture, still alive as in its original essence. We will start by walking this maritime barrio that has lots to be discovered: the food market, charming squares, historic anecdotes and its vibrant local life. We will have a delicious seasonal lunch at a SlowFood certified restaurant in the heart of the neighborhood, savoring fresh and farm-to-table products: seafood and eco veggies. Plus, tasting natural wines from Spain! We will then enter La Barceloneta fish market opened only for professionals or official guided visits like ours: a friendly partnership with El Peix al Plat project. During this visit we will learn about different fishing techniques, local fish species and more peculiarities of this ancient profession. We will also witness the daily fish auction first-hand! And above all, the visit aims to raise awareness of a more responsible and sustainable way of consuming fish. Live an unique slow (food) experience in La Barceloneta.
We are two passionate Barcelona local guides. Cecilia is a biologist but her main passion is the sea and food. She has studied cooking and knows everything about seasonal products. Sandro is a professional in Tourism, multilingual and a perfect host, he loves yoga and gelato! As hardened foodies and explorers, we are always in the search of new things to do and good places to eat. For us, food is an essential element to understand the local life. Inspired by the art of Slow Travel & Slow Food movement we founded Barcelona Plan·it. We guide gastronomic walks in the city and beyond

We will visit the La Barceloneta main square and local side streets, avoiding the main tourist trail. Our seasonal lunch will take place at a SlowFood certified restaurant. Finally we will visit Barcelona fish market in the harbor, an exclusive access for a few certified local guides like us. We will see how boats arrive back to the port with their daily catch, how they unload the fish and we will attend the fish auction.
