We’ll go to the Tropical Cloud Forest in the mountains of Heredia on a LEVEL 4*** hike that features two beautiful waterfalls and amazing landscapes. ***More details at the end of this section. We’ll meet in the city center and drive 11 KM (7 miles) to a cozy village from where we reach a Protected Area. We’ll walk for 3 hours through a recovered cloud-forest crossing creeks on footbridges surrounded by exuberant vegetation and some fauna! We’ll visit two waterfalls, and if you are up for it, we’ll take a dip in the pure-chill mountain water! On the trails, it’s common to find recent tracks of Tapirs and small felines, and to see birds of all kinds. Heading back to Heredia city we’ll enjoy some local flavors in a typical lunch. NOTICE: *** Level 4 means "MODERATE HIKE WITH GOOD INCLINES, A LITTLE OF STAMINA IS REQUIRED, YOU NEED TO STAY HYDRATED. GOOD FOR SOME KIDS AND TEENS. NOT FOR BEGGINERS", according to LATH hike standards. *** This is a 4 kilometer trek with a 160 meters altitude gain. (2.5 miles distance with 525 feet of altitude gain). Consider that the mountain air is thinner and temperature is cool. There are no paved sections or handrails along the hike. This experience is completed in 4 hours. *** Please do not sign if you are a beginner or you don't even take one mile walks. ***KEEP THESE IN MIND section (at the end of this page) also should be read.
I am an avid hiker-runner. I manage "Costa Rica es gente", a rural community tourism initiative. Trekking is part of my life since forever, so I decided to work with nature in a deeper way. I lead hikes around Costa Rica getting to know my country from a natural perspective and sharing wildlife and landscapes with others.
A typical costa rican luch including a ’’casado’’ with a natural beverage.
Pre-paid tickets to the private reserve
Private transport from Heredia to the beginning of the trail and back
Walking sticks and ponchos whenever they are needed. Sunscreen and bug spray provided if you don't have. Extra pictures to…
Tapir Mountain is a cloud-forest plenty of water streams, young oaks, wild birds, small mammals, butterflies, mushrooms, hummingbirds and ferns. There, we hike three or four hours in a recovered forest to breathe its thin mountain air. Once we reach the second waterfall you may enter the chill water pool, or not! Back in town, a typical lunch is waiting for you. You will love to find new trails and share them with your people.
