I live in Rome since many years and always loved plants, I am an activist and urban gardener and like to share Italian culture with travelers. I am co-founder of Zappata Romana and started the Hortus Urbis project from scratch
Zappata Romana founded in 2012 promotes the realization of urban gardens in Rome. We have a mission: empower the spontaneous initiatives of Roman citizens who care about green urban spaces and activate themselves for the common good reclaming abandoned areas. Zappata Romana created and maintains the Hortus Urbis, an educational garden in the Appia Antica Park.
We’ll plant, sow or prune according to season and experience the magic of urban gardens that get cities greener and more friendly. Discover an urban oasis and help take care the garden’s flowerbeds, in a journey through history starting from ancient Roman plants you'll discover ecological gardening techniques to use back at home.
