What is a minglering? We developed the technique when we wanted to make an individual ring together with people who have no knowledge about goldsmithing. It´s a quick an easy technique and the result is a ring with an organic structure and a rough surface. We picked the name "Minglering" because it´s nice with one ring on the finger and even nicer with several rings and they are "mingling" on the finger. The first thing we do is to measure the size of the finger you will use for the ring. I have prepared silver thread in the dimensions we need and we cut it in the proper lentgh. I show you how to bend the wire into your ring. Then the heating starts and we melt the silver on our heating stone. The ring is almost ready! We adjust the size and do some renovation. I will be there helping you all the way. I my experience small groups have more fun during the workshop than single persons. Therefor it's a good idea to sign up for a workshop when somebody else has already booked.
Wabi Sabi jewellery atelier is driven by two women, Ann-Merete and Dagmar. Dagmar will be the one you meet when you come to make the "Minglering". Working with jewellery gives me great satisfaction and I enjoy to take you into our world for the 30 to 60 minutes it takes to make the ring. I have my education from "Zeichenakademie" in Hanau, Germany and since 1992 I have lived and worked in Tromsø. I have twenty years of experience in the goldsmith proffession and still I learn new things all the time. Beeing also a designer I never get enough of experimenting.
I serve coffee and/or tea.
The Wabi Sabi atelier is located in the building where "Mack ølbryggeri" had it´s production from 1877 to 2012. Now the Tromsø Academy of Contemporary Art and different kind of companies are in the building.
It´s not necessary to have any knowledge about goldsmithing, I guide you through the whole process.
