I will bring you on a fun and fascinating walk through Dublin's history, art and heritage, showing you a personal selection of its very best buildings and artworks. You will learn about the city's dramatic history, its greatest personalities, and its finest artistic achievments, while exploring its many diverse quarters. We will encounter Dublin's Golden Age- the Georgian period of the 18th century- and learn how the people of that time lived. Our route will show us the full variety of Dublin's neighbourhoods, going off the beaten track to discover some of my favourite corners of the city. We'll explore north of the river first, visiting aristocratic mansions, 20th century tenements, art galleries and hidden surprises like the gardens of the King's Inns. We will then cross the Liffey and our tour will take us to City Hall, Dublin Castle, and on to the enchanting quarter around Grafton Street, where less well known Georgian buildings such as the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre will be discovered. We'll pause for a coffee about halfway through, then explore my favourite part of Dublin, the stunning Merrion Square area. I will tell you the stories behind the buildings as we go.
