Join us as we stop at two local Louisville bars/restaurants and sip some bourbon! You'll start by getting a quick brush-up on the basics of bourbon, but most of the time will be spent tasting various brands and styles of bourbon and other American whiskeys. At each location we'll try a flight of three half-ounce bourbon samples. Each flight features spirits that vary in recipe, age, and style from a wide range of our favorite distilleries. Guides Andy and Dillon will lead the tastings, starting with bourbon basics and guiding the tasting along the way. They will guide you in how to see, smell, and taste your bourbon for the optimal tasting experience. Our tastings are carefully curated to ensure that you get a wide array of interesting expressions, some of which you won't be able to find anywhere outside of Kentucky. We'll talk about the history of the bars/restaurants we visit, and the neighborhood itself. We'll provide crackers (to cleanse your palate and snack on), water, and tasting booklets for note-taking. Not to mention recommendations on food, drinks, entertainment, and of course, bourbon!
Danielle Huenefeld is a Louisville local and the co-founder of Sour Mash Tours, Louisville's guided, walking bourbon tasting experience. Andy Huenefeld and Dillon Miles are co-founders of Sour Mash Tours, Certified Bourbon Stewards, avid bourbon collectors, and enthusiasts. Dillon gave tours at Jim Beam before founding SMT! We've led walking tours for two years in Louisville. We've formed relationships with some of the best bars/restaurants in town, and love to be ambassadors for our city!
Our tour takes place in the Butchertown and NuLu neighborhoods of Louisville, both hip and happening spots in our great city. Full of great bars, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, there is plenty to explore long after our tour is complete! We'll introduce you to some of our favorite bars/restaurants in the area, and chat with some of the owners/bartenders/servers who work daily to provide a great experience (and drinks) for their guests.
During the tastings, you will have crackers to cleanse your palate and enhance the tasting experience. However, we recommend not coming on an empty stomach! You will walk less than a half mile total.
