Go off the beaten path in Bucharest to understand how the city transformed itself from a village-like town on the outskirts of the Ottoman Empire into the splendid and decadent city known as "the Little Paris". We will explore the history of the second half of the 19th century, including its impact on Bucharest's architecture, economy, and society. This is a 3-hour engaging experience that explores sites, stories, events, and visuals, and does not require prior knowledge about Bucharest. We will visit the picturesque neighborhoods around the Patriarchal Cathedral and Carol Park, including: • Romania's former Parliament, designed in French Neoclassical style • The Patriarchal Cathedral and Hill, considered to be the "Romanian Vatican". • Good Living Residence & Macovei residence, beautifully crafted house interiors from the Belle Epoque period • Fabrica Club, a funky and fascinating industrial facility that has been reconverted into a music club • Carol Park, one of Bucharest's oldest and most picturesque parks • Filaret Power Plant and train station from the late 19th century, built during the Industrial Revolution. A short break & drinks are included.
We are a group of friends who are passionate about our city: Marius, Claudia, Andreea & Cristina. Together, we will help you get lost in Bucharest! We've started guiding in 2013, after having traveled extensively. We are doing this because we truly believe Bucharest is misunderstood and insufficiently promoted as a tourist destination, but also because we genuinely love learning new things about this city every day. Our favorite past-time is getting lost in the city, exploring streets, buildings, historic events and personal stories of its residents, and trying to make sense of everything for you, the traveler.
Soft or alcoholic drinks are included. (1 drink/person)
Some places require an entry ticket, which is included.
