I’ve led ethnojunkets through most of New York City's ethnic neighborhoods at one time or another; we’ve eaten our way through the Chinatowns of Manhattan, Flushing, and Sunset Park, enjoyed Filipino, Indian, Bangladeshi, and South American treats in Jackson Heights and Woodside, and prowled around Staten Island’s Sri Lankan area – to name but a few. On this tour of Brooklyn’s Little Odessa, we’ll sample the delights of Russian and Former Soviet Union cuisine along Brighton Beach Avenue. We’ll share Georgian cheese bread as well as Turkish and Russian sweets and treats along with amazing dumplings, authentic ethnic dishes, and so much more. It’s a veritable cornucopia of food so bring your appetite; you won’t leave hungry, and you will leave happy! I always try to customize the tour depending upon the interests of the group. For example, if enough folks want to check out a large Russian gift shop (even though it’s not about food!) we can take a few minutes to scope it out.
Call me Ethnojunkie. I live to absorb ethnic cultures – the music, the languages, and especially the cuisines. Most of all, I enjoy turning folks on to flavors they’ve never experienced. That’s what my ethnojunkets are all about: food-focused walking tours through NYC’s many ethnic enclaves. As a licensed Sightseeing Guide and an inveterate storyteller, this is my passion. Want to learn more? Check out my website, ethnojunkie.com, follow me @ethnojunkie on Instagram or on my ethnojunkie Facebook page, or write to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’ll have plates, utensils, napkins, cups and a host of other necessities for eating our way through a neighborhood!
We’ll walk along Brighton Beach Avenue – total distance is about a mile – stopping at nearly a dozen markets and shops; we’ll pause along the way to consume our goodies. There will be a few places where we can sit down as well and if the weather is favorable, we might even walk one block to Brighton Beach itself, find a bench, and do a mini picnic there!
I can usually open up a specific date if the one you’re looking for isn’t available on the calendar. Don’t hesitate to reach out: I can most likely accommodate you!
