Join me as we meander through the historic streets of Charleston’s French Quarter & Battery in the South of Broad neighborhood enjoying some of Charleston’s most beautiful & picturesque areas as we seek out those perfect images to photograph. As we walk I’ll share guidance & tips to help make your images look amazing, as well as take some photos of you exploring our beautiful city.
Please bring with you a camera (cell phone or DSLR), a comfortable shoes, curiosity, love of history & a sense of adventure. We’ll begin and end your adventure on the steps of the US Customs House.
Due to COVID-19 to reduce the exposure for my guests for now photowalks will be private bookings. This will limit your exposure to people outside of your immediate friends & family. Pricing reflects this, a single booking is inclusive for up 4 people within your friend & family group. I will be wearing a face mask & require all participants to wear a mask that covers their nose & mouth at all times during the experience. I will turn participants away if you are not wearing a mask & your money will not be refunded. This is for everyone’s safety and protection. Thank you for understanding.
If you do not see a day/time that you are interested in message me and I'll set it up.
I also photograph private photoshoots the experience can be found here... https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/871177
Other things to note
Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes & put on some sun block before we begin! Unfortunately, I cannot control the weather- be prepared for the rain, heat or cold!

I’m a professional photographer and former photography professor. My first memory with my camera was borrowing my parent’s camera to take a photo of my Dad and Grandfather together on Mt Rainier. I carry a camera with me wherever I go and am driven to find the most beautiful and culturally interesting places to photograph. I now share and teach what I've been fortunate enough to experience.

Starting at the historic Customs House we’ll go over a few basic camera skills and composition tips. From there we begin our walk meandering through the French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhood passing historic sites such as The Old Slave Mart Museum, Stoll’s Alley, The Battery, the remains of the old Walled City, Rainbow Row and all the nooks and crannies along the way. Any camera is acceptable, fun is the goal.

Not only does Heather offer helpful photography tips to make you reconsider the way you frame, position or see your next photo but she also provides snippets of useful information about the history of the city as you walk along hidden alleyways, pass grand homes and places of interest. Thoroughly enjoyed the small group experience, admired the photos taken on the walk plus the helpful information provided.

Heather was awesome! My mom and I had chosen a particularly chilly day to explore Charleston and take this tour, but Heather kept it fun and engaging. She walked us down streets we wouldn't have found on our own, and gave us some insiders' scoop on Charleston's historic buildings and restaurant scene. She also met us right where we were at with our camera / photo knowledge and was very helpful without getting overly technical, which we appreciated. She took some cute photos of us, and even sent a follow up handout to support a conversation we'd had. I'd highly recommend you do a tour with Heather!

Excellent teacher and uses her surroundings dings to masterfully teach the basics of light and photography using the iPhone. A proud local who takes the time to ensure her students benefit from her experience. She took a ton of photos of us and passed it on to use when we were done. Even had a summary of her teaching points imprint ted for us to leave with.

Within the first five minutes we could tell that we were in for a great experience where we would take REALLY great pictures (and also have them taken!). This experience has been the highlight of our trip! Heather is very experienced in the area and taught us so much about phototaking that isn't necessarily intuitive (as millineals that take photos VERY often for social media, we were pleasantly surprised at how much better our my photos came out with Heather's tips!). The photo tour was great, but the history tour aspect of it all was just as awesome! Heather knows so many fun and interesting facts about the area. You really get a lot out of this experience. We enjoyed it very much, and it's a MUST DO if you are interested in visiting the area, learning about it, and taking photos that look amazing and will last a lifetime!
