Learn the basics of screen printing on to fabric with paper stencils in this two hour workshop at my fully equipped print studio in Stoke Newington, Hackney. A wonderful environment to try something new and enjoy the experience within a small group or bring along friends and family. Classes are limited to just 4 guests per session so you will have plenty of one to one support. I will guide you through the whole process and we'll each try a quick sample print on to fabric, to spark ideas and show you the ropes. You'll then have time to create paper stencils using scissors and/or scalpel, ready to print your own unique design on to a tote bag or tea towel. You are welcome to explore the many books and visual references around my studio to inspire and help you get started. There will be plenty of time to experiment and pick and choose colours from the studio collection. All inks are water based. Price includes a choice of tote bag or tea towel for each participant. I also welcome private classes for individual, couples or group bookings of up to 6 guests to enjoy an exclusive workshop tailored to your needs. Please do enquire about reduced prices for family bookings.
I have a beautiful space at the Chocolate Factory Studios, a real hidden gem in the heart of Hackney, home to 27 studios of creatives in ceramics, fine art, photography, illustration and my own practice, textile design. Since my MA in textiles at the Royal College of Art, I've been screen printing and making interior products for over 20 years and my work has sold in many of the London design stores and independent retailers throughout the UK. I have taught classes to both adults and children in craft venues, schools and from my own studio setting. I love teaching and seeing all the wonderful, diverse creativity unfold in the process. The Chocolate Factory is a secret hideaway for some 30 Hackney creatives and was established over 20 years ago by its artist founder, Keith Ashley. It's a beautiful Victorian conversion and complimentary new build set within a flower filled cobbled yard. As a working studio, please allow for a little bit of chaos but plenty of charm! Our next door neighbours are the wonderful Jackson's Art where you'll find a treasure trove of art supplies.
I work at the studio most week days and live locally so please get in touch if you don't see the date you are looking for. Feel free to ask any questions prior to booking the workshop.
