We will meet at Corn Mill Shoals Parking lot in DuPont State Forest for a brief introduction before we go more deeply into the natural world. On our way to the river, be prepared to get to know some of the trees, mushrooms and understory plants. We might also see some wild animals and I will point out animal trails and thier tracks. I am a woodsman and naturalist and have been running all over these mountains for years. I've studied the plants, animals and mushrooms of this region under teachers such as Snow Bear, Hawk, Fuzz and Star. These professional naturalists, ecologists, ethnobotanists and some honorary members of natives American tribes. I know what to look for in all the different seasons and I know where to look. I know the beautiful mountain overlooks and the secret waterfalls.
We will be hiking in the beautiful DuPont State Forest along Corn Mill Shoals Trail to what is called the Little River. The river is beautiful, wide and full of swimming holes! The trail is considered an easy hike, yet it is rocky and there may be some small streams to cross along the way.
There is always potential for rain here in these mountains, but storms usually pass quickly. This is a rain or shine event, but don't worry because the rain usually lasts less than half an hour.
