To start, you will choose one large and two small, ready-made unglazed pottery items (or garden pots) and will learn all you need for glazing and firing your pots. You will have a choice of glazes to mixed with colouring oxides for producing some exciting effects. The kiln will be hot and ready for you to pop in your items one at a time, we can have some delicious homemade snacks or order a good Italian Pizza (OPTIONAL EXTRA). Once the items in the kiln starts glowing bright orange, is the start of the excitement: with a long tong and fire proof gloves you will remove the pottery from the kiln and quickly dip it into an insinuator full of sawdust to smoke, then into a bucket full of water, for different effects. A lot hissing and steaming, before the pot is (hopefully all in one piece) ready to be scrubbed, revealing its true metallic shine. Please be aware that not all pots survive the thermal shock and they may break before seeing the light of the day (or the night!). That also is a part of Raku experience, calling for a Zen approach... But no worries, as you will not leave empty handed: expect a surprise gift
My passion for working with clay (Dip. Ceramics- C&G 1996) is a blessing from Mother Earth to bring about centeredness, mindfulness and inner joy into life. Having a long standing background in Alternative Medicine and Sound healing, I incorporate my love of pottery with the healing work that I do, resulting in the Udu Drum Making workshops. As a fully qualified AE Lecturer, to share the wonders of pottery with others and guide them to experience the magic of clay-work, not only makes my heart sing but also is a practice that brings everyone closer to their Divine purpose in life: Happiness
Snacks provided (included in the price). Or you may like ordering pizza or chinese take-away, a payable additional extra.
