From Cape Town we'll drive north to the Cederberg wilderness conservancy, where we will hike an easy trail to explore the late stone-age rock art of the San hunter-gatherers, the first inhabitants of southern Africa. We'll also visit a couple of extraordinary sites to which I have exclusive access.
In the evening, we'll set up camp in the mountains, swim in a natural rock pool, enjoy a South African braai (aka BBQ), and sleep under the stars.
The next morning, we’ll visit a few unusual rock shelters with cave paintings deeper in the mountains - in the so-called Red Cederberg with its otherworldly red rock formations. We'll end the adventure with lunch at a beautiful mountain farm restaurant and a stop at South Africa's highest vineyard to taste their delicious wines and craft beer.
This is a wilderness adventure, archeology and cultural history trip rolled into one. You'll come away refreshed by nature with great memories of the breathtaking Cederberg mountains and knowledge of some of humanity's oldest art.
