As soon as you enter the studio space, you will be surrounded by colorful examples of the things that you can tie-dye. Think amazing t-shirts, crazy socks, cool bags, sophisticated summer dresses... if it's dyeable, we can show you how! In our hour together, you'll explore dozens of ways to fold, twist, cinch, and bind fabric while learning traditional direct-application tie-dye (with squeeze bottles), and beyond. We will discuss ice dyeing, shibori, reverse dyeing, and how to combine these methods for gorgeous— not campy— results. You and your family will receive easy to understand information about the chemistry behind the dyes, strategies for how to replicate a dye studio for cheap at home, and the best ways to get the results you want! Please note: The nature of tie-dye is that your freshly dyed shirt needs to sit for 24 hours before you wash it out. We provide professional washing instructions. If you would prefer not to wash your own shirt, we do have a wash/dry service for five dollars per item.
I am so proud to have lived in this growing city of Asheville since 2004! Inspired by the rich history of craft in our mountain region, I earned my Masters degree in Crafts Education in 2009. I've been leading hands-on arts programming at schools, summer camps, and workshops in the area for almost 18 years now! In 2016, I opened a batik & tie-dye studio in Asheville to help spread the love of what I've learned. My patience, kindness, and love for teaching guide my students and clients to success, and I'm well-known for creating an upbeat, colorful, and in-depth learning environment.
