Visiting Lagos for the first time? This hiking trip is for you. Think: hiking along a picture-perfect coastline whilst tasting fresh produce plucked from the trees. We'll start meeting in the historic centre of Lagos, where I'll explain about the lavish history of Lagos: from the slave trade to the age of navigation and exploration. I'll also detail the geology and nature we can expect to see, such as the curious rock formations along the coastline, formed as a result of the earthquake in 1755 which dramatically transformed this landscape. We'll head along the coast hugging the path as we peer down at caves and grottos below. If we're lucky, we may spot a pod of dolphins. We'll pass Ponta da Piedade to gaze upon the wildly rugged rock formations, complete with sink holes and paths meandering here and there. We'll climb steps cut into the cliffs to hike down to the beach and soak up the great swath of sand. If they're in season, we'll pick almonds, figs & carobs straight from the trees to taste as we trot back into the old town and finish our walk.
Hey there! I'm founder of HIKE ALGARVE and an experienced hiker/outdoor adventure enthusiast. I love to meet like-minded outdoorsy folk, and share the history, culture and nature of Lagos whilst treading along the trail. I've hiked & camped for many weeks through the Alpine mountain range, write for adventure sports publications, surf, rock climb, practice yoga, ski & snowboard - hence, anything related to outdoors adventures is my forte. I'd love to share the astounding outdoors that the Algarve has to offer - along with some fine examples of Portuguese cuisine - Até já

Prepare to be astounded by a coastline crammed with crevasses, rammed with rocks of varying shapes and sizes, with sea stacks seemingly plonked into the ocean, and views that stretch out across the glimmering sea. Seek out grottos, shout down into sink holes, and plunge into the (normally icy!) ocean. You'll be led by a passionate guide and fuelled with homegrown delicacies!
You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness & wear appropriate shoes. The hike will take around 3/3.5 hours so please be aware of this. See more: @hikealgarve on Instagram.
