The workshop will run for 2 hours. Over 18 years old only please. We will start with a health and safety briefing and discuss the different glass rods available and the preparation of bead making. I will demonstrate the bead techniques and will always be in the studio with the students, no one will be left unattended. We will talk about the tools, equipment, torches etc, learn how to prepare the mandrels for the beads and discuss the compatibility of different rods of glass. Then at the flame you will learn how to melt a gather of glass, pull stingers of glass and then the first bead!!! Students will have fun playing with the glass, learn how the glass behaves and reacts and learn to make simple beads with some decoration techniques like dots and bubbles. Students will then kiln the beads ready for the next days collection or they can be posted. The studio has a range of glass bead making books and reference beads the students can peruse. This is a friendly, communal workshop bring a friend or join other student, everyone is welcome. Materials included. Water, tea, coffee, biscuits inc.
