This is a hike that immerses you in pristine Fynbos with a full range of species flowering from February to November. Situated on the southern slopes of the Outeniqua mountains, the landscape is dramatic with views along the spine of the mountain range and over the coastal plateau to the ocean. The diversity of Fynbos species also makes it ideal for botanical photography.
I have been guiding a range of nature hikes in the Garden Route since 2004 and have farmed Fynbos for export. Combined, this experience allows me to share insights into this remarkable Floral Kingdom, its species diversity, the ecological nuances and the environmental services that it provides. I frequently hike the Tierkop Trail, which is in a World Heritage site for Fynbos and know where the vari0us species can be found.

The trail starts through a section of Pine Plantation and Afro-montane forest before emerging into transitional forest fringe vegetation and Fynbos. The hike starts at 270m and climbs to 650m above sea level and highlights the altitude variation of Fynbos species with a mosaic of Protea Nerifolia, P. cynaroides, Erica spp and Mimetes sp. Most of the walk is on Jeep track with a 3km section of a single track contour path.
