We'll walk down DC's historic U Street, where we'll learn about the city's rich history and local culture. As we go, you'll have the opportunity to purchase food from a worldwide selection of the city's most famous and most delicious dishes, including: - DC's iconic chili half smoke - Authentic Ethiopian cuisine - Southern sweet potato pie - Exotic Japanese snacks - Fresh filled pastries Along the way you'll hear about the migration of freed slaves, U Street's role in entertainment history as "Black Broadway", the 1968 riots, and DC's famous mayor Marion Barry. We'll also talk about the city's rapid growth and offer a local's recommendations for restaurants and attractions. It's lunch, it's history, and it's good exercise! You can learn so much about DC by walking through the historic U Street neighborhood, from Black Broadway to the Great Migration to the 1968 riots and DC's current population boom.
