I am a wildlife biologist and professor of biology who has lived and worked with the local Samburu tribe for over 18 years. The Samburu warrior guides are experienced professionals who have led hundreds of participants on adventures, including children with parents, and who personally know the mountain and its habitat intimately, as well as traditional local cultural traditions and flora and fauna. While the hike could be considered strenuous, it accommodates guests of all levels of experience and fitness. The pace is set by the guest. Guest to Guide ratio: 4:1 depending on your group size.
The Sabache camp lies within the Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy, home to the Samburu tribespeople as well as their sacred Ololokwe mountain. The camp is 5 hours from Nairobi by car and 1 hour by plane.
