Built for the most part in the early 19th century, the covered galleries are a typically Parisian architectural feature, many of which have been renovated & restored to their original beauty. At the height of their glory in the Belle Epoque, the galleries were chic shopping malls with high-end designers, artisans, boutiques and bistros. Built in the style of Eiffel, they were architectural gems constructed in wrought iron and glass. But the rise of department stores such as Le Printemps and Les Galeries Lafayette caused their decline and by the end of WWII the galleries were neglected and abandoned. Rediscovered in the 1990s the city has begun renovating these gems and several have been named Historic Monuments. I will take you to visit these pearls, with their shops, bookstores & secret passages. They are now home to boutiques, artisan's workshops, bistros and restaurants. We will visit the most emblematic of these covered passages & discover the beauty of their hidden charms.
I am a Franco-American tourgide who has lived in the center of Paris for 30 years. I know the best places to eat, shop, visit....the places that only Parisians know. I will show you the hidden Paris...places you won't find online or in the guide books. During my guided walks I provide the background, history & anecdotes that bring the sights & sounds to life - and provide precious memories of your trip ! Let me be your personal tour guide & discover the authentic Paris, the real city that exists beyond the monuments. All my tours are conducted individually - small groups only.
