Upon arrival at the Foundation of Goodness premises in Seenigama, you'll be given a brief introduction. We'd love to take you on a short tour of our empowerment sectors and the story behind it as Sri Lanka's only one of a kind holistic rural model to empower disadvantaged communities! You'll head towards our Sports Academy or the Village Heartbeat Empowerment sector, both of which are closely located to our main premises. Then you'll man the cooking station and learn to cook traditional village rice & curry with me. You have the option to get assistance in preparing dishes if you would like to do so, or you can sit back and enjoy the lessons. At the end of the session, you'll enjoy prepared lunch in a relaxed outdoor setting. A recipe leaflet will be provided, to try it out back home with your loved ones. Duration of the cooking class would be 2-3 hours.
I am the in-house Head Chef at the Foundation of Goodness where I teach General Cookery for students at the Women’s Empowerment. Previously, I worked as Chef at Sri Lanka's renowned Galadari Hotel for 10 years. I consider Sri Lankan food to be very healthy and nutritious and I highly recommend you try my mushroom and pineapple recipe! There is no better way to share your holiday; you will have the opportunity to prepare lunch with me in the rural coastal village of Seenigama-Hikkaduwa, support a worthy cause and it would be an unforgettable experience during your vacation in Sri Lanka!

Seenigama is on the Southern coast of Sri Lanka. Embedded in its history is its survival on the sea and the coral gardens of Sri Lanka. The main occupation of the locals was to harvest the coral to make chunam for construction but after the Tsunami people realized that it was the coral reef that protected them from disasters like this. Today, many people are branching into new areas of work thanks to skills learnt at the Foundation of Goodness.
