Your experience comes in three steps! Step 1: You’ll spend time getting to know your horse with some hands-on grooming. Then you’ll have a demonstration on tacking up, and what the various pieces of equipment are, and their uses. We’ll also look at walking a horse correctly and safely on the ground. Step 2: Riding assessment in enclosed arena/ on a lunge/long line. Basic riding commands and safety. Getting a feel for the horse’s rhythm and becoming comfortable on him. Step 3: Relax and enjoy a hack through our glorious 30-acre bog with purpose-built horse trail. Paddle through the ponds and observe some beautifully scenery and wildlife, and you may even hear the call of the elusive Cuckoo at certain times of the year. *My experience conforms with Airbnb and the World Animal Protection welfare guidelines.* All my horses have freedom of movement, adlib forage, companionship and access to veterinary care and farriery. They all hold passports with their up to date medical records and these records can be presented to any authorities on request. A weight limit of 16 stone applies to ride Hector, my biggest horse.
I regularly ride all the horses I am offering to guests, and I am very much attuned to them and their behaviours. I am currently working my way through the British Horse Society accreditations which seek to professionalise work and instruction with horses (BHS Stages 1&2) All my horses are spirited, fun, happy animals suited to beginners or more experienced riders.
Hats Boots with a heel are required for horse riding: long trousers.
We'll hack through 30 acres of nature reserve, inaccessible by vehicles. We'll hack up a narrow country lane to visit a famine graveyard site from the Irish potato famine in 1840s. All trekking on this experience takes place off road.
