You'll pick out your favorite ukulele from our selection, grab your beverage of choice from the local market and settle in to learn the basics of holding and strumming the ukulele! You will be introduced to a few simple chords that will allow you to play around 300 songs from the 50's and 60's. After rearranging those same chords, you will learn how to play hundreds more popular songs from the 70's until the present. We then learn 3 more chords and the blues, which translates to thousands more songs! You'll also learn to solo over these and a beautiful local Hawaiian tune! Each student of ours is always able to take their lesson booklet home with them after the class. This short 'n sweet lesson is also the perfect way to spend a rainy evening in one of the most beautiful places in the world, with one of the best views! (Because we know how much Kauai loves her rain...)
Kirk & Tora
My wife, Tora Smart, is the brains of the business while I, Kirk Smart, design the lessons, the curriculum, and tell all the old jokes (but if it's your first time, they'll be fresh jokes for you!) The lessons are taught by either myself or by one of our other three fantastic teachers. I am a professional musician with decades of teaching experience and I thoroughly enjoy witnessing others get excited about learning to play an instrument! Having worked at M.I., the very respected west coast contemporary music school, I have distilled ukulele teaching to its essentials. Everyone can learn!

We hold this lesson at our shop in beautiful Hanalei and sometimes our singing shop dog Millie is there, too. We pride ourselves on our homey, family ambiance. People immediately feel comfortable and able to start their music career! Surrounded by instruments, vinyl records, hand-dyed yarn and percussion, you are welcome to have a cup of tea and get to playing music. We also are two doors down from one of the islands best shave ice stands ;)
Lessons start at 6pm, please arrive early to choose an uke & settle in! Our group lessons are talkative, informative & easy going. We are also available for more hands-on private lessons by request!
