Tide pools, or rocky intertidal zones, are small collections of ocean water trapped by rocks as the ocean level recedes. This area is covered by the ocean half of the day- during high tide- and the pools are exposed at low tide, which creates a unique, yet fragile, habitat for lots of small invertebrates and fish!
At our meeting spot, I will give you a brief talk on safety and tide pool rules, as all San Diego tide pools have a strict "no collection" policy. Once we understand how to tide pool safely and respectfully, the adventure begins!
Other things to note
- Children 3 years and under are free!
- I can also host private/group/extended (longer) sessions, contact me for more information - Guests must wear close-toed shoes that will get wet -

Often, students from local universities conduct studies and surveys at these pools. Once you book this experience, you will receive information on the exact address of our meeting spot.

We had an awesome time tide pooling with Matt for Christmas! It was so much fun learning new facts about all the tiny creatures. We even saw a beautiful California sea hare ( big red sea slug!) which was amazing! We spotted some magical Sculpin as well! This was such a fun way to get outside and learn something new! Matt is friendly, knowledgeable, easy going, and a great guide all around. Can’t wait to try one of his other experiences!

Our experience at the tide pools was great! Matt gave us detailed information before meeting us, which made us really comfortable. As we explored the tide pools, he wove in information about the ocean and pointed out animals and plant life for us to examine. He was very patient with my daughter and kept a good pace throughout the tour. We left with a greater appreciation for the ocean and its animals. We can't wait to come back and explore again!
