You'll receive an in-depth introduction into North Carolina cider culture with local Asheville cidermaker Chris Heagney. We will taste through eight locally produced ciders, all specially curated by Chris. The themes will range from sweet to dry, and from fruit forward, to barrel aged, and farmhouse. Chris will walk you through each cider, describing the various flavor profiles and explaining how each one is made. Local cheeses and snacks will be provided during the tasting. If your group is larger than 8, we may still be able to accommodate you - please contact the host. If you have a group of 4 or more and the listed times don't work for you, please contact the host.
I am the owner and cidermaker of Daidala Ciders. I began my fermentation career in the brewing industry, learning the trade in Sunderland, England. While studying there, I had my first taste of finely crafted cider at a beer festival in Newcastle. While working at a brewery back in the US, I frequently thought about the ciders I'd enjoyed in the UK. Soon enough, I sought out a cidermaker’s position at Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider in Oregon. Alongside founder Nat West, I learned the techniques of cidermaking, and helped create some of the most innovative and eccentric ciders in the industry. After leaving Oregon, I traveled back to England and spent time working on a traditional orchard and cidery. I'm grateful to have experienced both cultures of cidermaking: the long-established old world style, and the modern-experimental approach.

Eight Hard Cider Tastings
You'll be invited to enjoy this private tasting at a cider taproom and art studio that is unique to Asheville. Home to both Daidala and local artist, Andy Herod, the space is adorned with his artwork, and the bartop is patterned with Andy's drawings. Located in the historic Cotton Mill Studios, built in 1887, it also features one of Asheville's most popular murals, designed by Andy.
This is an experience for people 21 and older. You can find our studio on the ground floor of the Cotton Mill Studios. The entrance is right below the mural of the great blue heron!
