Come and join me for a fascinating, informative and fun two hours exploring the historic heart of Oxford. We’ll go through the doors and behind the walls of one of the university’s 38 beautiful colleges*, experience the quiet of a quad, visit the chapel and gardens and see where the students have their communal meals. Each college has its own unique atmosphere, history and traditions and it’s my job to bring them alive. We’ll travel down medieval lanes and alleys and discover hidden pubs and wonderful scenic walks. You will see the University's most photographed and iconic buildings – the Radcliffe Camera, Bodleian Library, Old Schools Quad, Sheldonian Theatre and the Bridge of Sighs. (make sure you bring a camera). I will tell their individual story and how they fit into the development of the University and town. If you’re a Morse, Lewis or Endeavour fan you may recognise some of the places we go and if you don’t, I’ll point them out to you. All the time, you will be walking in the footsteps of famous authors, film stars, scientists and politicians. Do you know what Oxford’s biggest gift to mankind is? Don’t worry I will tell you. * All Oxford Colleges have now closed as a precaution over Coronavirus. While this remains the case, the tour will focus more on historic streets, University buildings and scenic walks in Oxford. It will still be great fun.
I have a passion for storytelling, and a longstanding love of the historic heart of Oxford and its world-famous university. I like to put people at their ease and deliver an entertaining, fun and informative tour which will be the highlight of your trip to Oxford. To do this well you have to have detailed knowledge of both the University and City. I have lived in Oxford for over 30 years and have undertaken the six-month Oxford course of the Institute of Tourist Guiding and passed the practical and written examinations to be an Official Oxford Green Badge Guide. I am also a member of the Oxford Guild of Tour Guides.
