A three hour casting workshop, where you learn the basics of casting with Jesmonite and create a set of your own terrazzo tiles. These will be the first workshops at our new studio in Sneinton Market, Nottingham! Come say hello, make some terrazzo and join us for a drink to celebrate. What you will do During the workshop you will design your colour palette, learn how to mix and add pigment to Jesmonite, learn how to cast into a silicone mould and finally how to sand and finish your tile. Because the materials we are working with will need some time to set, there will be some natural breaks during the session where refreshments will be provided. The Materials We will primarily work with Jesmonite, which is a gypsum based resin. It is non-toxic with no VOC’s. We will also use some water based pigments and a wax for finishing. The Results By the end of the workshop you will take home two finished tiles. If you would like to use these as coasters, we will provide some felt pads for the bottoms. Because of the time restraints of the workshop we will finish your coasters with a wax, this adds a light layer of protection and a really lovely finish, but is not as resistant to coffee or wine stains as other sealers.
I'm the founder of Olivia Aspinall Studio, a surface, and product design studio based in Sneinton Market, Nottingham. I started the studio 5 years ago and have been teaching workshops for 3 years. We specialise in creating handmade and bespoke surfaces for interiors. Our workshops give participants the chance to explore colour and pattern and learn the basics of casting.
