Meet at Stevenage station (Approx 30 mins from Kings Cross) where you will be picked up by complimentary 4x4 transport and driven to the start point. The walk will last approximately 4 hours. The route will typically be rough tracks and foot paths which can be muddy under foot, so appropriate walking foot wear is required. During the walk you will learn about the history of the land, local area and current agriculture. We will identify wild plants and flowers on the route - many of which are edible. As a qualified Mountain Leader I will also cover the basics of navigation by map and compass, and identification of ground features on maps. We will finish the walk with refreshments in a vintage tea room (not included), and then return to the station.
I am an outdoor Fitness Instructor, qualified Mountain Leader and nature enthusiast. I have always lived in Hertfordshire and I am still amazed that there is such beautiful and untouched countryside so close to London. This provides the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of crowded city life.
Our day will start in the chocolate box village of Westmill, with a 13th century church, water pump and red telephone box. We head out into open farmland towards an original Roman road. Then we meander along farm tracks and quiet country lanes overseeing beautiful rolling countryside and woodlands. We pass through a number of small picturesque hamlets. views are breathtaking, and wildlife such as fallow deer and pheasants are plentiful.
