When you arrive for 10 AM, I will provide you first with an all important cup of coffee or tea. We will then go through a quick health and safety guide. I will then explain what we will be doing and go through a brief explanation of the tools, and all you need to know about the silver we'll be working with. Depending on the type of project (Ring/Bangle/Pendant) you have chosen, we will discuss and choose the design you would like to make. We start with a standard size for the piece, and go through design options. From here, I will guide you through each step of the process, from measuring, cutting, filing to shaping, to hammering and soldering your piece. If you want to add any copper detail (flower/heart etc), or stamp any letters or designs into your piece I will assist you with this. Once you have completed your piece, we will go through the process of cleaning and polishing your piece to finish it off, this is my favourite part, seeing students face light up when they see what they've achieved. During the whole day I will provide plenty of cups of tea/ coffee and biscuits, lots of fun and photographs that you will receive after the workshop as a memory. At the end of the workshop I will give you a personalized certificate to keep.
I'm a business owner with 25+ yrs experience designing and making silver and gold jewellery. I'm also a photographer capturing Weddings, Newborn, Cake Smash, portraits and everything in between. I've got an extensive corporate background in Senior Management for global companies, but after redundancy I decided to make the hobby I loved into a business venture. I have an A-Level in Art & Design, and art has always been an interest. I completed a 10 wk jewellery course being curious how silver jewellery was made and I was hooked! I honed my skills at the Mid Devon School of Jewellery and once I'd purchased my house I set about making sure a cabin was a feature in my garden. I love what can be made from simple materials and with teaching some basics to students on my workshops, I see some lovely pieces, and happy faces admiring a unique make
Biscuits for tea and coffee dunking!
My cabin is fully equipped with all the necessary tools and machinery to enable you to handmake a fantastic piece.
We will conduct our workshop in our cosy cabin in the back garden. *For larger groups (more than 2 people) we will host the workshop at a nearby village hall for which I will give you directions. The workshop is fully equipped with all we'll need for silver smithing. On warm days the door of the cabin will be open and a fan is available to cool down, and in the winter the cabin is heated too.
An allocation of silver material is included in the workshop, larger/thicker material is charged per size/weight. Small copper enhancements are at no additional cost. Aprons are provided if needed. There is a choice of 3 different projects: A ring, bangle or pendant.
