We will board from the dock and then take your group up to 6 people. First we'll tour the boat, briefly discuss safe sailing practices and answer any questions. We will sail on the Saco River into Saco Bay. You will get behind the helm to steer and learn about reading the wind/sky; using effective team work, setting and adjusting sails, safety procedures, navigation and practical rules of the road. We will keep on the look out for marine wildlife. We have seen seals, porpoises, sharks and even whales. We will return to the same dock on which you boarded.
I enjoy teaching sailing to folks of all levels of experience. My goal is to take wherever you are and with a positive environment help build your sailing confidence, skill and knowledge. I started sailing as a young boy in 1972 in Barnegat Bay on the New Jersey shore. I got to know the stunning Maine coast working as part of the deck crews aboard several Maine Schooners including the Angelique, Appledore, Mary Day and Surprise. I have chartered a significant number of sailboats on the Maine coast. I am a USCG Master's License Captain with my towing and sailing auxiliary endorsements. I have owned and sailed my 42' sloop Mistress since 2014. Learning on this modern ocean going sailboat will advance your skills and prepare you for the future.
On board the 42' sailing sloop Mistress you will explore Saco Bay and see the hidden secrets of Saco River. We will explore Saco Bay with its 8 fascinating islands. We will enjoy the charm of Wood Island Lighthouse. We will delight in the beauty and fun of Old Orchard Beach and the New England charm of Biddeford Pool.
