Welcome to Kuala Lumpur! This is an introduction into Kuala Lumpur, starting with the founding of the city, arrival of tin miners, and the arrival of the British. It covers the Chinese quarters and colonial heritage trail. Thus, we are going to meet Yap, the Grand Old Lady and the Dog. You will be introduced to the beginning of Kuala Lumpur from a small Malay village to the influx of Chinese tin miners to its rise as a capital of British Federated Malay States. The tour starts at the River of Life to know more about the origins of city and Captain Yap Ah Loy. You will visit the temple Yap built and learn about Taoist deities and praying rituals. After visits to Masjid Jamek and St Mary's Cathedral by the river, you will walk about the cluster of heritage buildings around Dataran Merdeka, including the Grand Old Lady, and visit the informative KL City Gallery. The tour ends at the exclusive Royal Selangor Club (the Dog), where you will eat a delicious banana leaf rice with your hands. By the end of the tour, you have experienced the rise of Kuala Lumpur with the Chinese tin miners, British colonialism and eat lunch like a local.
I live all my life in Kuala Lumpur. I am particularly good with travelling around the city center, especially on a bicycle, so I get to visit all nooks and crannies that most people can't get to on cars or buses. I love reading about the history of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia in general, especially during the rise of KL as a small trading post to a capital city. I am also a member of the exclusive Royal Selangor Club at Dataran Merdeka, so I can invite you inside the historic club and to enjoy the famous and delicious banana leaf rice for lunch. If the you are interested to know more about Kuala Lumpur while enjoying a good walk and lunch, book me. My name is PING and I am a licensed tourist guide.
