On this one-hour virtual celebration of diversity, you will hear stories of women who forged their own paths and reflect on how women’s history impacts us today. A passionate host narrates the live Zoom event while sharing visuals that journey from past to present. Intermittent games and creative challenges keep groups engaged and connected.
This live, virtual event focuses on six women whose impact on science, business and culture has spanned the globe and resonates with us today. You’ll learn about a daredevil pilot, a trailblazing sculptor from the 1893 World’s Fair, and a fierce labor union leader, among others.
Each experience includes:
- Creative and competitive games like trivia and a haiku writing contest.
- Historic photos, contemporary portrait art, and video that illustrate each badass woman’s story.
- Optional opportunity for volunteers to act in a scene as real figures from history.
This is not a passive experience! Audience members are encouraged to participate in the chat and to actively engage with the host and each other. The various activities in this memorable experience cultivate creativity and communication.

I founded virtual events company Chicago Detours in 2010. For a decade, we were a tour company that shared forgotten stories and overlooked places to curious people. My team and I used our experience in storytelling, event curation, and team-building to pivot to virtual events.
We offer fun, insightful virtual experiences about people, places and ideas across time. Our enthusiastic team of historians and storytellers narrate the event and have fun interacting with guests. We include a variety of vivid images, like archival video, historic illustrations, and vintage photography.

Had a great time learning about so many Chicago legends. I knew none of their names prior and left with a solid understanding of their backgrounds.The story telling was a perfect pace and I had a good time reflecting as a larger group on these women's impact in each of their lives. I loved being able to experience the Badass Women of History event. There was clearly so much thought put into the research and presentation of these women's stories and the care that the host had for her topic really shone through.
