We will begin our Tucson Mural Tour near downtown, at 7th Ave and E 6th Street. You can park in the lot on the corner, across from Benjamin Supply Company, in front of the first mural we will visit on our tour. We will continue to downtown to visit 12 of Tucson's most famous murals and learn about the artist and the significance of these stunning works of art. This is not just a photo tour. The stories behind these murals are just as fascinating as the murals themselves. The tour is a loop, so you will have only a short distance to walk from the last mural back to your car. You will have time at each mural to take photos and I'll give each person an info sheet so you can tell your friends about them when you show them your incredible photos of these cherished landmarks. The tour is a 2 mile walk on city streets and takes approximately 2 hours. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, bring your camera, sunscreen and water, and wear a hat, especially in summer. There is not a lot of shade on this tour and the Tucson sun can be intense, even in winter. A small backpack or bag to carry your belongings will be convenient.
I have been a resident of Tucson since 1998 when I came here to go to graduate school at UofA. In the last 20 years, I have watched Tucson grow, develop, and come into its own. The murals that cover the city walls of Tucson businesses weren't here - at least not so many - 20 years ago. The murals have changed Tucson for the better, and the artists who created them deserve recognition and thanks. I researched the murals and chose prominent ones to show people on a 2 mile walking tour of the downtown area. My interest in murals began when I lived overseas. I had many opportunities to travel to countries where murals & street art can be found on every street. I would create my own photo essays of the murals, but the stories behind them were missing. My goal is to share the stories of Tucson murals with our wonderful visitors.
I will provide a numbered mural map with the 13 murals we visit, plus others that are not in the downtown area but definitely…
Each mural we will visit has its own story and reason for being where it is. The muralists are all well known within the artist community and each one has their own reasons for creating these works of art that quickly became landmarks. You'll learn the stories behind the murals. We will visit 12 murals in total. Afterwards there are many more murals you can visit on your own.

We will walk from the first mural in a loop to the last one, and the tour officially ends on historic 4th Ave at Brooklyn Pizza. From here, you can follow me 3 blocks back to your car, or you can stay and enjoy one of the many restaurants, cafes, or bars on 4th Ave.
