If you take the train along the frontline of the Catalan coast, you can stop one hour north of Barcelona: you'll be in Sant Pol de Mar, best kept secret for barcelonians that love the sea, and most charming old fishermen village 50 km north of the city. By train or by car, you will arrive at the very center of the really small village. From there, we will walk in a shortcut through 5 narrow streets into the Sant Pau hermitage: from there you'll get one of most beautiful views of the Mediterranean. Next is the cozy medicinal garden of the hermitage vigil house. Then we'll go down to the center: Liberty style houses by the well-known architect Ignasi Mas i Morell, private gardens on romantic style, the old 3 Michelin stars restaurant from the first female chef in Spain, the fishermen boats on the beach and the ancient Sant Jaume church. From there, we'll reach a historical house where walkers would not arrive unless they go to hear the mess... for centuries home of the guard of the church, today is a private location: my house, that I just open for family, friends and Airbnb experiences. It will be lunch time and we'll prepare 4 Catalan dishes the ancient way (bread and tomato, Spanish ham, fish tapas and vegetables; we will drink with the 'porró', the tipical Catalan crystal bottle. After that we'll go back to the station, walking along the beach promenade from the oposite side
Stefano & Cris
Life is an adventure and we have been on many. Me and Cris met 20 years ago in Bagdad, and since then we have been travelling around the world. As photograper and journalist, we have shoot or write about culture, politics, travel and gastronomy for papers like The New York Times, Le Monde or il Corriere della Sera. We've also learned to cook from some of the best chefs in Spain, because gastronomy is one of our passions. As university professors, Stefano still teaches photography and art in Florence, while Cristina was teaching journalism in Barcelona. More than 15 years ago we discovered Sant Pol de Mar, where we realised that there is beauty on the most simple and original places. Hope we can meet you soon on this experience!
