Paradise Lake is lined with sunny granite platforms and wind-strewn Jeffery Pines and Sierra Junipers. This beautiful backpackers’ camp is about summer swims and star-filled skies. It's a very moderate hike, but will take most of the day. It's roughly 10 miles round trip. While a popular backpacking route, Paradise Lake also makes for a longer, but rewarding day hike. Depending on your schedule, we can leave as early in the morning as you like. We'll start up a forest road that offers an easy, undulating path up to the shoulder of Castle Pass and our intersection with the famed Pacific Crest Trail. We'll head north through Tahoe National Forest and soon come upon views of the stunning Round Valley before switching back up the west slope of Basin Peak. Views to the north and west will soon reveal why this is such a beautiful hike. In early summer, the wildflower blooms along this hike are hard to describe, and will earn your Instagram account more likes than you can count. Until we reach the lake. Once at Paradise Lake, we can swim, relax, meditate, nap, and snack. We can take time to chat about LNT practices while hiking, camping, and recreating in the outdoors. This is what a "lake day" in the mountains is all about.
My company, Pika Odysseys, has more than 15 years of experience guiding backcountry adventures in a range of environs, from national parks to remote desert wilderness areas. My company is the only Tahoe-area hiking experience hosted by a legal, licensed guide. We have official commercial operating permits with the Tahoe National Forest. The northern Sierra Nevada mountains outside of Truckee is my home, and we've been exploring the trails, lakes, and peaks for years. Leave No Trace (LNT) ethics is a set of backcountry travel principles that help people understand how to travel while leaving as little impact on our wild places as possible, ranging from how to select campsites to ensuring nothing is changed after you leave. You can use this new-found LNT expertise on your next day hike, camping trip, or adventure pursuit.
We provide high-end, wilderness-ready tents, backpacks, sleep pads, pillows, sleeping bags, all meals, and kitchen equipment.
