We’ll meet 30 mins before low tide in Ocean Beach/Pt. Loma. Free parking. It’s a 3 min hike (25% incline) down to beach/tide pools.For groups with children we meet at another spot & take stairs (with handrails) down to beach & tide pools.
I only make days available with negative (below sea level) tides + before sunset. I’ll name the marine life/ shells & ensure they’re empty if you decide to take them.
In the interest of preserving our coastal ecosystem & within this small space where we may take shells I ask to please not take more than you need to help keep our coastline environment thriving. There are plenty to choose from.
I’ll answer questions & tell you how to clean & preserve your shells at home.
Vitamin water provided at start. I’ll have a waterproof backpack for shoes & waterproof pouch for phones or any other electronics.

Take note of the start time as it does change each day due to the change in tide height. Also, the dates that are avail to book cant be changed due to height/time. More found at lower sea levels.
If you have surf booties that’s best or just bare feet, no flip flops.

I am a lifetime finder & seeker of extraordinary seashells & corals at beaches all around the globe, with an awareness & sense of how & where to find the beauties of my native Southern California coastline. Living in San Diego again for the past 4 years, my most cathartic & rewarding hobbies (at safe low tide) is finding untypical shells which have lured some less than enthusiastic friends to the beach at odd hours. When they get a glimpse of the edge of an abalone shell and dig it out, they’re hooked!
I have a healthy respect for the ocean & prefer sushi on a plate not near my feet so this experience is within (unprotected) tidal zones and tide pools and a bit of shifting and moving of small rocks brought in by the waves at high tide and personally, doesn’t involve more than 6-8 in of water. Just my preference.

we had a great time with Dawn at the sunset cliff. really appreciate her positive energy and generosity, e.g. she offered us handbags to carry our shoes and shells, free drinks, etc. she found a most beautiful shell and give me the opportunity to get it out of the rock. super fun, highly recommend.

Very cool, went to an area I would have never gone to on my own. She was punctual, friendly, accommodating in every way, energetic, and was an overall genuine person. Found amazing shells, learned a bit along the way, and truly enjoyed ourselves.

Dawn was an amazing tour guide, she knew the area very well and made sure everyone had a great experience. She even brought us warm water to rinse off our feet. She made sure everyone got shells and was very easy to talk to! I could tell how much she loved finding shells, and the ocean. I would definitely recommend her.

This was so fun! The weather was amazing and low tide coincided with sunset, and we found some great, big shells. I would say this isn't for the faint of heart--there's a scramble down a steep rocky path (I ended up going down on my backside!) and you spend most of the excursion clambering over rocks, but Dawn Elizabeth was so great about helping me over the spots I couldn't figure out, and made sure everyone in the group took home some special shells.
