Telluride is a former silver mining town along the San Miguel River, and is surrounded by the steep and forested San Juan Mountains, which are part of the larger Rocky Mountains. Much of the mountain range featured heavily in the gold mining rush of the early 20th century. Today it hosts some of the best off-piste skiing adventures in the Rocky Mountains. Its picture-perfect setting, with lush alpine forest carpeting steep slopes, provides unforgettable skiing memories. Because of the terrain that we’ll cover, this “discovery” trip is designed for expert skiers. We will begin the day with some freshly-baked French croissants at Baked in Telluride, a cool bakery in the center of town. Then we’ll put out skis on and head onto the slopes of Bear Creek, a spectacular spot for off-piste skiing. Offering acute verticals and chutes, its dramatic beauty comes with some very technical challenges. After hours of exploring Bear Creek we will end the late afternoon in Last Dollar Saloon, an old-school rustic bar with plenty of pints and other well-earned drinks. This off-piste skiing trip in Telluride is the perfect way to explore some of the best skiing in the Rocky Mountains, as well as get a feel for this historic town. If there are 3 or 4 of you then contact me to hear about an interesting offering that would be available.
