A trip down memory lane with Berlin locals: You will meet two Berlin locals- from East and West and you will find out about their life's in the GDR and in West Berlin before the Berlin Wall came down and after 30 years of being reunified as a country. We'll talk about our personal life experience in Berlin, about society's and community's that came out of two different political systems and about an typical East- and West Berliner. We'll start the experience at the historical former checkpoint Bornholmer strasse, where the Berlin Wall first fell and talk about the Cold War time, why the Berlin Wall was built and why it fell. Regina was demonstrating for freedom, every Monday...and I grew up in West Berlin, the Island in the communism. Life there was also completely different compare to West Germany and of course to the East. After the historical part we walk (2km) on the "No mans land", an area that is not at all touristic, to an cozy cafeteria where we meet Regina and where we have the time to go in deeper conversations. In the end of the experience we visit the most popular park in Berlin- "Mauerpark" with the biggest flea market on weekends, live karaoke, underground vibes and legal graffiti art on the former hidden East Berlin Wall.
Hi, we are Valerie & Regina! We grew up in the same city but were raised in totally different political systems, one in East- and one in West Berlin. We are also from two different generations, Regina lived for 28 years in East Berlin and I was just a teenager, when the Berlin Wall fell. But even now after 30 years of being reunified as a country and a people our personal lives are still bearing the marks of the past. With our personal life experiences, different educations and values we bring history to life and give Berlin visitors the opportunity to get an authentic account of: "How was the life behind the Berlin Wall?" and does the wall still exist in our minds? We'll talk about the changes in the city, the Cold War, the history of the Berlin Wall, the characters in the east and west, and how reunification of Germany has worked out.
The experience will take place in former East Berlin- Prenzlauer Berg. Places we will visit: -Checkpoint Bornholmer Strasse- Place of November 9, 1989 -walking at the old Berlin Wall Way/ No mans land -Frau Krüger's Cafeteria( have a break for coffee and cake) -Mauerpark (one of Berlin favourite parks) -hidden parts of the Berlin Wall- with graffiti art -Bernauer Strasse (whole street got split in East- and West-Berlin).
We will stop for coffee and cake...please have some extra change with you. Unfortunately, the cafetaria does not accept card payments. Thanks!
