We begin with a tour of the modern shophouse and learn about the history tied to this building. After this, we will head over to the event space (The Loft), specially decorated for the mid-autumn festival. We will have an interactive session to bring you on a journey through the history and origins of Mid-Autumn in Chinese culture. I will then brew teas that I have specially acquired from mainland China, one of the finest producers of tea in the world. You will get to experience a traditional tea brewing session with me as I take you through the different notes and tastes that the teas take on as they age. We will savour from over a collection of 4 over teas, I will also be serving them with mooncakes as it is customary during Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. I will share with you my stories from when I was growing up, we will have conversations about how tea is a space for reflection.
I am a Chinese Singaporean and I started with tea when my mother introduced to me at a young age. At that time I didn't know much about tea but I would always associate it to festivals in Singapore, she would pair mooncakes with tea. When I was fifteen, I began my journey by experiencing a beautiful tea session in my teacher's home from China. This was when I realised tea is so much more than what I thought. There are complexities in flavour, body, scent and purpose. I deep dove into learning about the art and craft of brewing tea in Yun Nan, China after that. Tea and mooncakes are from a diminishing culture, I teach to keep this tradition alive. Over the span of my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to teach 100 people over 1000 hours.
